It’s important that you know who will be joining you on your special day, shoot or event, so let me properly introduce myself.

I’m Sam Crathorne, a wedding and lifestyle photographer based in South Derbyshire, and this marks the beginning of something I’ve dreamed about for a long time. For more than ten years, I’ve been capturing life through my lens — starting with friends and family and gradually building experience across weddings, events, sports, and portrait throughout the Midlands.

In the autumn of 2025, with the encouragement and support of my wife, I decided it was finally time to turn that passion into something more. We took the leap, spending over a month’s wages on the camera and editing equipment I now use, and decided to give this dream a proper go.

In my first two months as a professional photographer in Derbyshire, I’ve had the privilege of photographing two weddings, two engagements, a maternity shoot, a concert, two football games, five portrait and friendship sessions, and two events for local businesses. Seeing people enjoy my work, display it proudly, and even use it in their marketing has only deepened my passion for what I do.

Who I Am Behind the Camera

By day, I still work full-time as a residential support worker for young adults, after spending three years as an outdoor activity instructor. Both roles have taught me a great deal about patience, flexibility, and how to connect with people; qualities that have shaped the way I approach photography in Derbyshire and across the Midlands.

When my wife and I married in June 2025, I found myself more excited about choosing our photographer and videographer than almost anything else. Looking through different styles and approaches gave me a new perspective on the importance of finding someone who truly understands your vision. That experience reinforced how much I value capturing authentic, natural photography, moments that feel real, honest, and true to the people in them.

Outside of work and photography, I’m happiest outdoors. Whether it’s sailing, surfing, or travelling across Europe with my wife, I’m always chasing adventure. That same energy comes with me to every shoot. I like to keep things relaxed and enjoyable, helping people feel comfortable so their photos capture genuine emotion rather than stiff poses.

I provide a wide range of photography services across Derbyshire and the Midlands, including weddings and engagements, portraits, corporate and local business events, maternity and family shoots, concerts, and sports photography.
